5 Apps to Help You Run Your Business from Your Phone

The whole world has gone mobile, and while there are some definite drawbacks to this (like the digital-heavy dating culture among Millennials I have experienced up close), it’s not all bad news. In fact, for those of us running small businesses, the increased capabilities we have via our mobile devices can help us manage our businesses more efficiently… even when we’re on the go.

There are a few apps in particular that small business owners should all install on their phones immediately. Here are five apps I rely on.

1. Freshbooks

If I could only choose one tool to keep my business functional, I would choose Freshbooks, hands down. Freshbooks is an invoicing and accounting tool that’s perfect for small businesses. It helps you create professional-quality invoices that allow you to track information like when the invoice was sent, how long overdue it is, and whether it’s been viewed or paid. The invoices also offer a variety of ways you can choose to be paid, including via bank wiring, credit cards, and PayPal.

Freshbooks also allows you to utilize time-tracking features, expense tracking, and detailed accounting reports. My CPA has view-only access to my Freshbooks reports so he can provide me with updated taxes-owed estimates throughout the year. Having all this information in the palm of your hand, and being able to review invoices, monthly income, and total expenses on demand, is invaluable.

Freshbooks pricing starts at $15 per month, and the app is available on both iOS and Android.

2. Agorapulse

Social media marketing is a big deal for almost all businesses regardless of industry, and Agorapulse is easily my favorite social media management platform — and app — out there.

Their mobile app is just as functional as their desktop site, letting you monitor and respond to social engagement, schedule content, and publish new posts. Their notifications system is also fantastic and customizable, so you can choose how often you want to be alerted about social engagement and posts to check.

Agorapulse lets you manage multiple social media profiles under one dashboard, including your LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and now, YouTube. They’re also the only social media ad platform I’m aware of that will show you every single comment on your Facebook Ads — not even Facebook Ads offers this feature yet.

Agorapulse’s pricing starts at $49 per month, and the app is available for both iOS and Android.

3. Citrix RightSignature

One downside to running a business is all the paperwork. I sign an average of six new contracts every month, which means that I’m literally signing six paper contracts every month. That’s where RightSignature by Citrix comes in.

Right Signature, for those who aren’t familiar, allows you to sign contracts and forms electronically while still keeping them legally binding. I can even sign them myself and then send them to my clients to sign, and they’ll automatically be sent right back to me.

You can do this when you’re away from your laptop with the RightSignature mobile app and you can even take a quick look at viewing and signing activity from other parties, and you can have your most important documents right there on your phone at all times.

RightSignature pricing starts at $12 a month, and is available for both iOS and Android.

4. Homebase

Managing several employees? Scheduling can be a nightmare, but Homebase can make it at least a little easier.

Homebase is free employee-scheduling software that has some great features small business owners will love. From scheduling and time tracking to getting employees to approve and/or edit their schedules, it’s a huge time-saver.

While creating complex schedules is something you’ll likely want to do from an actual desktop, you can technically use Homebase’s mobile app to do this. You can also communicate with employees about scheduling changes directly through the app, along with managing time-off requests or shift trades. You can also review timesheets from your mobile phone before they’re sent off to payroll.

If you decide you want advanced notification or GPS tracking options, you can upgrade to one of their paid pricing models, which starts at $9.95 per month. It’s available for both iOS and Android.

5. Dealkit

Last but definitely not least, we have Dealkit, the user-friendly software that allows you to quickly create visually stunning and highly effective coupons and deals right from your mobile device.

With Dealkit, you can create offers that are contingent upon certain actions, set your restrictions, and share the offers anywhere, with just a few clicks. You can use these offers to capture lead information and build lists to send future offers to.

Get more sales, draw in more traffic, and capture user interest all while capturing their lead information along the way– what more could you ask for? It’s the perfect marketing solution, and you can skip the steps (and thousands of dollars) it takes to create multiple landing pages.

Dealkit is currently free to use, with more plans and features coming soon.

Conclusion

Running a business is no easy task, and for many of us, it requires much more than the typical 9 to 5 schedule. Being able to carry our businesses with us makes it easier to devote the necessary time and attention.
